Description:
With around 100 students attending the high school, there is a lot of activity in the classrooms each day. The school is a very important asset to the community by providing a valuable education for the youth thus giving them opportunities for a brighter future. The school is sustained through community fundraising efforts which can often be difficult to secure. Volunteers are asked to help with teaching English, science and math, as well as work with some students in the library for extra tutoring help. Being a positive mentor for the students is also a very important task of the volunteer.
Highlights:
This high school is located in Effiduase-Banko of the Sekyere East District in the Ashanti region. Volunteers will receive a thorough orientation for a few days in the capital city of Accra upon arrival in Ghana. Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. All meals with your host family are included in your stay.
Qualifications:
Experience or education in counseling, and/or teaching is helpful, but not required.
