Description:
This non-governmental organization based in Kumasi was set-up to address selected problems confronting the vulnerable youth and the disabled in the community. They are committed to working with orphans, street children, school drop-outs, and cases of unintended pregnancies, physical abuse and illiteracy. When it began, the NGO's first activity was to teach five young women basic dressmaking skills in order to help them develop a sense of self-worth while giving them tools to earn a living. Currently, the NGO serves around 250 at-risk youth.
Highlights:
Volunteers are asked to help teach the orphans in the primary and middle school basic subject matter, organize recreational activities, lead discussion groups, tutor and mentor students, help with food distribution in the mornings, assist in the rehabilitation clinic, and most importantly offer encouragement and motivation for all children.
Qualifications:
Experience or education in counseling, teaching and/or childcare is helpful, but not required.
