Description:
The DREAM Project is searching for a registered nurse or nursing student to act as a health resource and informal health educator for our 2009 summer camp. The primary purpose of the nurse is to promote wellness, prevent accidents and diseases among the students, and help with basic care. Our camp runs From June 28th to July 31st and supports 250 campers. Camp Nurse Responsibilities: * Dispense meds * First aid for minor injuries * Ensure health and safety of campers and staff * Weekly health checks and maintain student files * Communicating specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets) to staff * Communicate with parents * Accompany sick/injured campers or staff to the hospital or to medical appointments * Participate in camp activities and events

DREAM volunteers lead youth groups, operate libraries and computer labs, run summer camps, organize community committees, teach preschool children, offer adult education classes and train local teachers. What are the benefits? For the volunteers, the program offers a wide range of experiences from unique friendships and life enriching cross-cultural encounters to work experiences rarely available in highly industrialized countries. Our volunteers become immersed in our schools and our communities and have the opportunity to develop and to share their talents while serving others. Qualifications:
* RN or LPN degree (or nursing student-to assist in Health Center) * Fluent in Spanish * Flexible-- able to adapt to different environments and schedules * Confidence in nursing skills * Responsible, hard-working * Good bedside manner, friendly and personable * Strong assessment abilities * Prior experience with children (does not have to be in a medical capacity)

The DREAM Project's Mission Statement: The Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring (DREAM) Project is a US 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides equitable access to quality education for children born into poverty in rural areas and small communities of the Dominican Republic by combining volunteerism, international awareness, and community involvement into a sustainable support system.
