Description:
This volunteer programme will give gap year/volunteer travelers the chance to experience what it is like to work and live on a Big5 game reserve. The course runs all year and a minimum of 2 weeks on the course are required. You will be housed inside the game area in a big farm style house. Living here with you are the farm manager and his wife, and the orphaned animals which we hand rear. All other wildlife also roam around your house.
Highlights:
To name but a few: - Wildlife (rhino, cheetah, elephant, giraffe and buffalo) regularly visit the house. - Cheetah tracking and associated research projects - A 2 day survival camp in the bush where you will also learn rifle handling. - Game capture and relocation and a basic wildlife immobilization course. - Marine ecology day. - Feeding and hand rearing orphans like springbuck, elans and what ever is in need. - Community uplifting projects with local kids. - Working with elephant where you will actually get the chance to touch them! - Very nice social times at our bar and "lapa" area.
Qualifications:
* Volunteers need to be of reasonable fitness and health. * You must be willing to get your hands dirty and work as a team.
