Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Throughout the year

Description: The Global Service Corps (GSC) Tanzania volunteer vacation program builds on more than ten years of non-profit international development experience in East Africa. The Volunteer Vacation provides an affordable alternative to GSC's Service-Learning Programs, and offers participants an opportunity to teach English and assist young people in schools and orphanages, learn about the Tanzanian culture and participate in a variety of sight-seeing opportunities in the Arusha area.

Volunteer Vacations are a great way to immerse yourself in the rich Tanzanian culture and while at the same time making a positive contribution to the Arusha community. GSC's volunteer vacation experience can be an affordable alternative to GSC's Service-Learning Programs or can also offer the conventional tourist a window to a new way to experience a country.

Teach English and Orphan Care Volunteer Vacation Programs in Tanzania

Highlights: The program begins with your arrival in Arusha, where you will be met by a GSC representative who will escort you to a comfortable guesthouse. Here you will stay for the first three days of orientation before moving to your homestay or alternative housing (available for an additional fee.) During orientation days you will take part in activities introducing you to the Arusha area and Tanzanian culture. GSC staff will provide an overview of your program schedule and facilitate discussions on Tanzanian culture, health and safety issues. You will also participate in a walking tour of Arusha to familiarize you with your new surroundings, conversational Swahili lessons, and instruction on teaching English as a second language. No further special training or skills are required of Volunteer Vacationers.

Following orientation activities, you will begin your volunteer service in Tanzanian schools and orphanages. Volunteer placements include teaching English and providing much needed services to underprivileged children.
