Chiang Mai University
Online Course
Dates: 2009
Description:
The Language Institute Chiang Mai University volunteer placement program aims to place teachers in under-privileged schools across Northern Thailand. As a teacher, you will be asked to work with a variety of different students in a mixture of environmental surroundings. If you are thinking about travelling to Thailand, and enjoy working with Children, why not gain some experience through our volunteer program. If you are interested in volunteer teaching but don't have the experience, don't worry. The Language Institute CMU has a variety of different TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) programs for you to choose from. Our TEFL certificates are internationally recognised, and fully accredited by Chiang Mai University, Thailand. Both our 120-hour TEFL Certificate Program and Online 60-hour TEFL Essential Course will help prepare you to teach in any classroom around the world.
Highlights:
The Language Institute Volunteer Program provides a holistic experience of being able to teach to students with little or no exposure to English. The schools we have chosen will require volunteer teachers to teach between 3-4 hours per day, for 5 day a week. In return, you will be provided food and accommodation by the schools. In Thailand, a schools class size can vary, and you might experience anything from between 20-50 students per class all with varying levels of English proficiency. As a teacher, you must be able to design a mixture of classroom activities and exercises which will challenge various groups of students within the class. With rural schools, many classrooms will not have the luxury of air conditioning, projectors, computers and textbooks; as a volunteer teacher, you should prepare for the unexpected. With any volunteer project, flexibility is the key, you must be creative at times, and use whatever resources are available to you. At times, you might feel overwhelmed by your task at hand, but dont worry; you will be given support from other members of staff at the school, and not forgetting the support from your students.
