Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks

Description: Help alleviate social problems and open doors for socially, emotionally, and physically disadvantaged students and adults with our Art Outreach Program in Mexico.

In our unique Art Outreach Program, you will help provide opportunities for disadvantaged children, teenagers, and adults through artistic activities and educational programs. In response to widespread poverty throughout the communities of Jalisco, Mexico, many fathers have fled to the United States, hoping to create a better life for their families. This migration and the ensuing atmosphere of broken families have resulted in variety of social and emotional disadvantages for the local children.

Our Art Outreach Program works with children and adults in Tapalpa, a town in rural Jalisco, who are physically, emotionally and socially disadvantaged. Through art workshops and other cultural activities, local people can be exposed to the arts, and develop their creative skills and self confidence. They will also learn how sell their artwork, which generates income for broken families and disadvantaged communities, thereby enriching their quality of life.

Volunteers in Mexico can choose to spend their time in public schools, at an education center, or at community art workshops. All projects will combine aspects of culture, recreation, and work habits to foster the growth of the human spirit and enhance creative ways of thinking and living. As a volunteer on this project, you can teach local students and adults how to draw, paint, and create paper maché artwork from recycled products. Volunteers can also teach art classes to students at the education center, or English and computer skills to local schoolchildren. Your work on this project will help strengthen the self-confidence and skill development of students and adults suffering from various disabilities.

Volunteer Adventures's Mission Statement: The mission of Volunteer Adventures is to create and promote volunteer opportunities that improve the lives of others and the environment in which we live. We seek to achieve this goal by connecting worthy local projects with volunteers around the world. Many local organizations are doing great work in their communities, but don't have the resources required to recruit international volunteers. Volunteer Adventures serves as the link between these organizations and the volunteers needed to make these projects a success. All volunteer programs depend on the skilled coordination of a variety of elements: enthusiastic volunteers, meaningful work, organized projects, and supportive staff. It is our goal at Volunteer Adventures to orchestrate this process for you. We use our global experience and resources to provide volunteer experiences that bring pride and satisfaction to everyone involved.
