Description:
Volunteers joining this program work in a primary school for disabled children in La Ceiba.Volunteering in this Project will allow you to play a crucial role in the lives of deaf and mute children. Your tasks in this project may include helping to improve or develop the communication level of the children. As a volunteer you can primarily adopt communication techniques such as auditory-verbal, bilingual-bicultural, oral method, speech reading (lip-reading) and manual sign languages (PSE, ASL, Signed English, Signing Exact English). Volunteers also organize different activities for the children and involve them in extracurricular activities such as games , painting, dancing. You can also help the local staff at the school in different tasks and taking care of the children. A typical volunteer in this program works for around 5 hrs in a day with weekends off. Program Information Program Requirements Volunteers must be 17 years or older at the beginning of the program. Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. There is no particular education requirement for this project. Volunteers ability to use sign language will be an added advantage. Project Location The project placements are located in and around the city of La Ceiba. Most of the volunteer projects are located at within close proximity to the accommodations. La Ceiba is the third largest city in Honduras. * Located on the north coast of Honduras bordering the Caribbean Sea and a blue-green mountain range rain forest. * It is a charming and safe port city. * Just a short ride by ferry boat to the beautiful Bay Islands, famous for their snorkeling and scuba diving.
