On the weekdays, you'll work with the children, staff, and families of Mi Segundo Hogar through one or all of the site community projects: recreational camp, summer studies, and facility improvements.

Want to do more? We can help you arrange additional volunteer hours with a Chimbotano womens shelter, infant/toddler center, housing project, or hospital.

Work with Youth in Chimbote, Jan/Feb

Highlights: It might be winter in the US, but it's SUMMER in Chimbote! If you're looking for a place off the beaten path, this Peru 109 location is for you. Because Chimbote is relatively untouched by tourism, you'll be immersed in a way that other locations cannot match!

On the weekends, you'll have time to hike Chimbotes Cerro de la Paz that overlooks the harbor, visit the temple ruins of Sechin, or explore the Isla Blanca just minutes from the Chimbote shore. Or, you may decide to spend a day sandboarding on the surrounding impressive dunes, or relaxing at one of the nearby beaches.

Peru 109's Mission Statement: Peru 109 is a small, family run organization based in Vermont that leads volunteer programs exclusively in the country of Peru. Co-directors Anne (USA) and Juan Carlos (Peru) designed the Peru 109 trips with the goal of not only facilitating community changes for the better, but also encouraging Peruvians to be active in initiating and maintaining community growth. Peru 109 offers both group and independent volunteer programs throughout the year. Each program is unique in location, project, and community involvement. Regardless of length of stay or location, each Peru 109 trip focuses on a project that both benefits and includes residents of the host community. Host communities currently include neighborhoods in the cities of Cusco, Trujillo, and Chimbote.

    Year Founded: 2007
