Description:
Developing World Connections volunteers will have the opportunity to work in rural semi-desert communities outside of Udaiper, Rajasthan on land management and water conservation projects. In collaboration with SAHYOG, our host-partner, volunteers participate in activities that support sustainable farming and livelihoods. Deforestation and poor land management compounded by harsh climate has made it very difficult for may of Rajasthan's rural poor to eke our a subsistence life. Participant volunteers will work directly with subsistence farmers in the construction of small sub-service dams, water barriers, wells and land partitions.
Highlights:
Volunteers benefit from working in a group, which offers the sense of team work and group accomplishment. Volunteers work with and alongside locals. By working together, one benefits from a real sense of global citizenship and solidarity. All experiences are led by an experienced team leader who helps facilitate the experience. Volunteers benefit from the lasting friendships developed and from the life changing impact of such a unique and meaningful experience. Developing World Connections's Mission Statement: Our Mission:
To contribute to the betterment of our global community by providing service to people in developing nations.
Our Philosophy:
Developing World Connections strongly believes that great learning comes as a result of working with people from all nations. It is not our purpose to change the culture of our host country, but rather to embrace and better understand the differences that give equal value to each society. Our volunteers are guests who respect the host country's culture and honour the goodwill extended to them during their visit.
We believe the footprint we leave behind should be gentle, the friendships great, and the memories we bring home should positively and profoundly impact our lives.
