Conservation/ Ecology/ Environmental Projects in Ecuador

  Ecuador

Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Dates: Year-round

Description: Participants can choose between one of two conservation projects offered by AIDE in Chile:

1. Choco Bio Region Conservation Project: This project seeks sustainable development through each of its activities in the fields of agriculture, reforestation/ forestry and education. The project lies within the Chocó bioregion, which is one of the ten most biologically important zones in the world. The 90-hectare project serves to help preserve this region through their tree nursery, where they often have more than 10,000 local plants, and educating the surrounding communities on how to conserve resources and develop sustainable methods of agriculture and farming, as well as forestry practices.

Volunteers will assist in everything from collecting seeds for the tree nursery and helping to conduct research on plants and animals in the area, to helping with reforestation projects in the area. This entails clearing weeds and brush from the land before transplanting plants, and also keeping the areas around the newly transplanted plants clear so the plants will survive

2. Organic Farm Project: If you are interested in learning more about organic farming and filling your belly with eco-friendly edibles, working at an organic farm is a great option. As a participant, you will work on the land, helping with everything from composting, working in the tree nursery, helping with construction projects, feeding the farm animals, harvesting vegetables, seeding, to using organic fertilizer in the botanical gardens and crops.
