Short-term volunteering on an Educational Project in Kenya
Kenya
Dates: Visit the GVI website for upcoming start dates.
Description:
Join GVI on this project in Kenya and have the opportunity to assist local community development projects by teaching English and working on sustainable tourism programs. You will receive full training with GVI's education staff and have a hands on experience where you can make an invaluable contribution to the development of this warm and welcoming community. As a volunteer on this project you will live and work in the beautiful Shimoni Archipelago, off the coast of the Indian Ocean on the border with Tanzania, which is a world class location for spotting dolphins as well as other wildlife. If you like you will also have the option to combine this project with other GVI projects in the area including our dolphin or primate research projects. * How this program makes a difference: GVI's work in Kenya makes a difference by supporting our partners, including Kenyan Wildlife Services, in three different areas of focus: cetacean research, community development and terrestrial ecology studies. Through education, environmental awareness and current wildlife monitoring studies, GVI's collaborative work has been building capacity in the local communities, assisting them in developing sustainable tourism practices and protecting cetacean and primate species in the region. By joining this project you will focus on the community development side of the program but will ultimately aid all aspects of this long term multi-focused program.
Highlights:
* Immerse yourself in the local community * Learn some Swahili * Learn basic TEFL techniques * Receive your intro to TEFL certification * Camp out under the African stars * Live on an African island * See dolphins and whales * Experience amazing mega-fauna * See whale sharks and manta rays (seasonal) * Go snorkeling and see coral reefs
