Volunteer at Grace Home, Nepal
Nepal
Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Description:
Grace Home is a small non-profit organization that provides care, lodging, food, clothing, heath care, education and protection for approximately 15 orphaned children year round. While they have had a good start on their home and school, they lack many basic amenities in other aspects. The facilities are in great need of a re-bricked outdoor area and some basic play equipment for the children. They also lack desks, blackboards, toys, books, first aid kits and a system for tracking and organizing the medical records of the children. Volunteers on this project will work together to improve the living conditions of the children at Grace Home. This will involve renovating the living area, creating a safer playground, facilitating a better learning environment through the expansion of existing facilities and implementing educational programming and workshops. Teams of volunteers will participate in a number of tasks, including: * Relaying brick in the school and play area * Expanding and repairing existing classroom/living areas * Building more desks/chalkboards/play structures/bunk beds * Painting classrooms and educational murals * Starting a small organic garden * Creating and organizing medical profiles for the children * Leading English language workshops for children and staff * Aiding in the assembly of a First Aid Station and teaching caretakers how to use them * Implementing Health, Hygiene and Safe food preparation seminars for staff and caretakers
