Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Flexible. (Arrival on a Sunday through Thursday.)

Description: There are numerous opportunities throughout the beautiful country of Costa Rica to volunteer at different schools. With locations in rural and city areas scattered throughout the country, volunteers can help improve children's education in their choice of setting.

Participants will be placed at schools that lack the resources and infrastructure that most other schools take for granted. Volunteers can work in any of three levels: Kindergarten, elementary, or high school, assisting the classroom teachers and eventually giving their own lessons. English is taught 3 or 4 times a week, and the volunteer's assistance will be a great asset in the classroom. Help is also needed with physical education, recreation, and the arts. Participants with skills in any of these specific areas should feel free to mention them so that additional lessons can be coordinated with the school.

Volunteers arrive in the capital city of San Jose and will be picked up and brought to an area hostel for the first two days. There will be a brief orientation during this time about their program and new surroundings in Costa Rica. Volunteers will then be transported to their host family. Living with a host family is a wonderful way to learn about a new culture and share a piece of you at the same time.

Volunteer Activities May Include:

- Assisting classroom teacher's in lessons and assignments
- Teaching English to school children
- Assisting in physical education
- Teaching additional classes in recreation and the arts
- Helping the children in their studies outside the classroom
