Description:
The rehabilitation center is located in the southern Peruvian city of Cusco. Although it serves all members of the community, we place an emphasis on the needy; assisting and promoting their health through in depth rehabilitation that leads to an improvement in the quality of life. The following services are offered at the Center: General medicine, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, language therapy, dentist, psychology, pediatrics, laboratory, augmentative alternative communication, psychomotor activity, pharmacy, X-ray. Participants will come up with a small plan to help contribute an activity to the patients at the center. Areas in which to help: - Direct accompaniment to the hospitalized children - Domiciliary visits - Excursions and free time - Organize parties and take part of them - Pastoral and liturgical accompaniment and animation - Children's support - Selection of medicines and clothes - Help in kitchen, laundry, and maintenance services Participants volunteer Monday through Friday and live with a Peruvian family specially selected for this program.
Cost in US$: $1210 for 2 weeks.
Experience Required: yes
Medical background is helpful. Medical students (nursing, etc) are welcome.
Typical Volunteer: All volunteers must be 18 years old or older. Volunteers need to have a desire to learn about another culture and teach about theirs. All interested participants must complete a GeoVisions application.
