Description:
The Mnarani Primary School Project aims to raise the standard of education for the children of Mnarani village so that they may escape the inevitable poverty trap and contribute to the development of Kenya. The project seeks to accomplish this goal by significantly improve the government-funded primary school in Mnarani village. The project came to fruition through the efforts of local business entrepreneurs and the support of visitors to local tourist destinations. The objectives of the project include: * Improving and expanding the physical facilities of the school * Equipping the school with the necessary resources and materials * Sponsorship of local students unable to afford standard uniform and textbook fees Come Kuona has partnered with the Mnarani Primary School Project by placing international volunteers in the classrooms. Volunteers have the opportunity to teach a variety of subjects, while working together with local Kenyan teachers. By doing so, volunteers have the chance to provide children in Mnarani village a quality of education that reaches far beyond that of a typical rural school, ultimately granting them the chance for a better life. The project is located in Mnarani, a suburb of Kilifi town. Kilifi is a small town located along the Indian ocean, an hour drive north of Mombasa. Kilifi has most of the facilities of a big town, but small enough to maintain it African charm.

- Affordable, enriching and fun programs. - Safe and inviting communities. Walking distance to the Indian Ocean! Kilifi has a lot of places to go swimming on weekends or weekdays. There are many cyber cafes, restaurants serving both western and local cuisine, pubs and coffee shops. Other destinations you may be interested in include Mombasa - many sites to see in this old and historic coastal city including old town, fort Jesus, Hindu temple and local fabric shops. There are also plenty of banks, cyber cafes, restaurants and pubs. Lamu - magical island at the northern end of the Kenyan coast; Lamu seems to be the richest Kenyan preserve of Swahili culture. Malindi, Watamu and South Coast Mombasa are great locations for snorkeling and relaxing on pristine beaches. Tsavo (The theatre of the wild) and Amboseli National Parks - both great places to go on safari to see lions, zebras, elephants and other animals that make East Africa famous for it's wildlife.
Qualifications:
- Be 18 years or older - Have no major health problems - Have no criminal record - Self motivation, patience, open minded and respect of local culture, traditions and dress code.
Cost in US$: from $920 for 1 month ($600 - 2weeks)
Cost Include Description:
Home stay with host families. You will be provided with your own room and 3 meals a day. The meals will be nutritious and local. Vegetarians are catered for. This arrangement ensures that you get fully immersed in to the culture and at the same time have your own privacy.
