India
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Visit the GVI website for upcoming start dates.
Description:
Volunteering overseas as a family offers one of the most incredibly rewarding experiences for all involved. Voluntourism for families is a great way for families to experience exciting and new cultures together, while also doing something completely different in a safe and ethical way. Family volunteering allows your children to discover parts of the world they would probably never learn about at school in an in-depth way not possible on a normal vacation. GVI is pleased to announce that all children under the age of 18 will receive a 1/3rd off the total price on all of our family volunteering projects. Visit Rajasthan, experience Indian culture and teach underprivileged children while working on community projects in the beautiful city of Udaipur. Take part in weekly workshops including yoga, cookery, dance and arts and craft, as well as Hindi classes, and embark on a four day adventure side trip to explore this majestic and dramatic part of India. There is still a great deal of poverty in India, and volunteering with the children of this region can make a real difference in schools which are understaffed and find it difficult to give children the individual attention they need for a good education. This project is also a valuable opportunity to study Rajasthani culture, and as such there is plenty of occasions to immerse yourself in a very unique way of life. How this program makes a difference: Local schools are understaffed and under-resourced. At times a single teacher will manage a large number of students as well as administrative duties in the school. GVI volunteers help ease the work load by teaching the students and helping in the classrooms. In recent years, English was introduced into Rajasthan Government Primary Schools, but the teachers are not skilled in teaching English as a foreign language. GVI volunteers are able to expose the students to excellent English language models. * Please note due to the varying group dynamics of different families (for example the number of children and ages of children), each application is dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please call us directly to discuss your family's volunteer travel requirements.
