Family Volunteer Project Teaching English in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka
Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates.
Description:
Volunteering overseas as a family offers one of the most incredibly rewarding experiences for all involved. Voluntourism for families is a great way for families to experience exciting and new cultures together, doing something completely different in a safe and ethical way. Family volunteering also allows your children to discover parts of the world they would probably never learn about at school in an in-depth way not possible on a normal vacation. GVI is pleased to announce that all children under the age of 18 will receive a 1/3rd off the total price on all of our family volunteering projects. Volunteer on this project in Sri Lanka and teach children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to develop their academic skills. Volunteers live in a rural community in Central Sri Lanka, close to one of the country's largest National Parks and assist in the local school with activities ranging from teaching English to coaching the village football team. Live with a local family in the village and be immersed in the Sri Lankan culture. For such a small island, Sri Lanka has many riches that continue to lure travelers, enjoy the waterfalls, beaches, excellent bird watching, fascinating culture, jungle and national parks that you will find in abundance. * How this program makes a difference: The foundation started off providing children with further education in English and computers, but has grown to supports additional initiatives, such as bringing PC's to the homes of the local villagers and micro-scholarships which help students who are having difficulties financing their studies. This project now provides over 160 students with access to the internet, PC's in their homes and an academy to improve their English and ICT education and most importantly it offers both the children and the community fresh hope for the future. * Please note due to the varying group dynamics of different families (for example the number of children and ages of children), each application is dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please call us directly to discuss your family's volunteer travel requirements.
