Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates.
Description:
Volunteering overseas as a family offers one of the most incredibly rewarding experiences for all involved. Voluntourism for families is a great way for families to experience exciting and new cultures together, doing something completely different in a safe and ethical way. Family volunteering also allows your children to discover parts of the world they would probably never learn about at school in an in-depth way not possible on a normal vacation. GVI is pleased to announce that all children under the age of 18 will receive a 1/3rd off the total price on all of our family volunteering projects. Help out for a short time on GVI's Teaching English program for Secondary School children in Guatemala. This specially designed short term project gives volunteers with little time the opportunity to make a real difference by working on this vital program. The primary goal is to break the long term program into smaller workshops, allowing children more one on one face time and personal attention while you help them practice what they have been taught on the existing longer term program. These short term workshops also help the students become accustomed to different accents. As a volunteer on this project you will live in the colonial town of Antigua and volunteer in the indigenous communities of the surrounding area. * How this program makes a difference: This GVI project in Guatemala makes a huge difference to the children as English is a valuable skill to have. The English they learn in school is often from a Guatemalan teacher who has no grasp of the English language, and is teaching from a book. These GVI projects focus on teenagers, so the shorter timescale of the volunteer's involvement has a less psychological effect on the children and allows them to interact with a wide range of English speakers. * Please note due to the varying group dynamics of different families (for example the number of children and ages of children), each application is dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please call us directly to discuss your family's volunteer travel requirements.
