Family Volunteering on an Elephant Conservation Project in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka
Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: Visit the GVI website for upcoming start dates.
Description:
Volunteering overseas as a family offers one of the most incredibly rewarding experiences for all involved. Voluntourism for families is a great way for families to experience exciting and new cultures together, while also doing something completely different in a safe and ethical way. Family volunteering allows your children to discover parts of the world they would probably never learn about at school in an in-depth way not possible on a normal vacation. Global Vision International is pleased to announce that all children under the age of 18 will receive a 1/3rd off the total price on all of our family volunteering projects. Volunteer with the Sri Lankan Wildlife Conservation Society on this GVI program and experience the amazing way of life the beautiful island of Sri Lanka has to offer. Contribute to wildlife conservation while you work alongside field scientists cataloging and conducting surveys in the forests, on the grass plains and in the water holes. In your spare time discover the spectacular waterfalls, beaches, bird watching, fascinating culture, forests and a variety of national parks that Sri Lanka contains. Help the endangered Sri Lankan elephants by aiding in human-elephant conflict resolution and the effort to develop sustainable conservation strategies to protect the elephants. You can also be a part of the ground work in establishing the first Trans-Climatic Zone National Park in Sri Lanka. How this program makes a difference: The Sri Lankan elephant faces an uncertain future, reduced to fewer than 3,500 in the wild, the elephant has suffered from habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, habitat degradation and poaching for ivory. Dedicated conservation efforts, backed by political will and commitment and adequate financial support, are needed to halt these threats and ensure the long-term conservation of this species. * Please note due to the varying group dynamics of different families (for example the number of children and ages of children), each application is dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Please call us directly to discuss your family's volunteer travel requirements.
