YMCA Camp Erdman Volunteer
Hawaii (USA)
United States
Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 3-6 months
Dates: All year round
Description:
Located on the famous North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, YMCA Camp H.R. Erdman offers volunteers a unique outdoor training experience between the foothills of the Waianae Mountains and the Pacific beaches of Mokuleia. While our extensive International program invites participants to complete 13 months of training through four separate modules, the volunteer program offers a shorter training experience of at least 90 days, although volunteers are encouraged to stay for one of the following time periods: January-May, June-August, or September-December. During their time at camp, volunteers will work in one or more of camp's programs: conference, residential camp, maintenance, kitchen, and/or environmental education (school programs). The conference program takes place throughout the year, usually on the weekends, during which volunteers lead groups in swimming, archery, hiking, arts and crafts, high and low ropes courses, team-building initiatives, and the climbing wall. The residential camp is offered during the summer and intersession breaks and includes the same activities as the conference program in addition to more traditional camp programs, such as dance, drama, sports, nature, and campfire. The maintenance program supports all of camp's activities, as they are responsible for the upkeep of facilities, while the kitchen provides meals to camp's guests and staff. The environmental education program offers traditional camp activities alongside a science-based curriculum for school groups.
Highlights:
Volunteers are eligible for a 1200 USD travel reimbursement at the end of the 90-day commitment in addition to room and board during the experience. Program participants leave with lifelong friends and irreplaceable memories from time spent in one of the most beautiful environments in the world.
Qualifications:
Volunteers should be flexible, energetic, and willing to work long hours within the different programs, depending upon the needs of camp. Volunteers must also uphold the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
