Description:
Be part of it with i-to-i! Our goal is to achieve 400yrs of combined volunteering all over the world by the end of 2008. So far we have achieved 325yrs which when broken down means we achieved the following: - Over 5500 children cared for on our community projects around the world - A minimum of 13,000 children and adults taught English in schools and community centres - Hundreds of animals protected including Turtles, Pandas, Elephants, Monkeys and more - At least 80 homes and structures built for families and communities in need - More than 8000 trees planted which are enough trees to offset the CO2 emissions of over 2,000 cars Looking for a challenge? As with most of the projects that work with children, it's the kids who call the shots; outnumbered on all sides you'll be left with no option but to sing another song, wipe another nose and play another game! Your reward will be the knowledge that you're providing a valuable support to children ranging in age from 0 to 6. With such a mix of ages you'll need to be prepared for everything, from feeding young babies, jumping around with toddlers to your biggest challenge; persuading around 100 children to take an afternoon nap! You'll receive our TEFL certification which will help you prepare for the experience and if you do manage to get the kids to sleep you'll be free to head to the beach. Highlights:
What were the highlights of your trip that you couldn't wait to tell your friends about? "How amazing and enjoyable the project is. The kids are so cute, I will really miss them. The country is beautiful, especially what I saw of Chapmans, and the views from Table Mountain. Kat is great!" (Sophie Laver) The day starts in the morning when the children arrive and is filled with Teaching, play, feeding, caring, looking after babies and eventually getting the children to sleep for two hours in the afternoon. Times may vary, but you are normally expected to work from 08.30 or 9.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Any extra time that you are willing to give to the project is appreciated and any extra curricular activities that you wish to initiate and manage are welcomed. You will be fully immersed in the daily duties at the centre and will also get involved in playing, reading and teaching the children. You will be assigned to the centre that needs volunteers most at the time of your placement.
Qualifications:
You don't need to be a specialist or rocket scientist to take part in this experience, but a little love, care, patience, commitment and enthusiasm will go a long way! Keeping an open mind will also help you enjoy the best experience possible.
