Description:
Join GVI on this voluntary work project in Guatemala and help make an exceptional difference to the lives of these Guatemalan children born into extreme poverty. You will learn Spanish, live with a local family, and truly experience Guatemalan culture while living in the beautiful Spanish colonial style town of Antigua. Much of the Guatemalan population lives in poverty and few of these people can afford a formal education. In order to help provide education to more people, GVI has joined with local indigenous leaders to create these community teaching projects. * How this program makes a difference: A substantial part of the volunteers fee goes towards the day-to-day running costs of the projects themselves, which includes rent, electricity, local salaries, fruit and other food for the children, educational materials for classes, monthly birthday and other celebrations, painting and maintenance. GVI currently pay for over 400 children to attend National School, as well as their own schools. Of these, almost 50 children entered Secondary School and 8 entered College. Included in your fee is one scholarship for a child to attend school for a year.
