Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description:
The majority of children in India suffer from a poor educational system that does not allow them access to quality learning. In an effort to increase the students' ability to work towards a more promising future, the school focuses on computer education, learning English, and helping the students develop a more professional skill set. Volunteers will assist with teaching English, math and organizing recreational activities. Teaching workbooks are provided to all volunteers to guide them through the curriculum and aid in teaching the material. Volunteers will also tutor children who have fallen behind because of their more limited learning capacity or were former drop-outs. Volunteers will help teachers create a fun and playful environment at a very low cost. It is also important for volunteers to teach proper hygiene and health education.
Highlights:
Volunteers will be picked up from the airport in Mumbai and stay the first night in a hotel arranged by Greenheart Travel. Participants will then head to a smaller town nearby to participate in a two day adventure program that includes trekking and overnight in a local Indian village as well as a two day yoga course at a local Ashram. From there, volunteers will head by train to Goa and begin there four day orientation to learn about cultural differences, health and safety, local customs and language, as well as any additional information you will need to know for your project. There will also be weekend excursions and an English translator nearby. Additional Activities * Weekend Excursions * English Translator Nearby
