Description:
Young women and men with a strong background in reproductive health issues will be best suited for a position as a reproductive health assistant. Volunteers will have the chance to work with local public health nurses towards the delivery of educational lectures on topics such as family planning, birth control, antenatal and prenatal health. This particular position requires a great deal of self-motivation and is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for reproductive rights to learn first hand about the challenges and struggles facing women and men in West Africa. Another component of this particular placement is the creation of a brochure on a topic of your choice (to be approved by local stakeholders and public health officials). This brochure will be worked on approximately two days weekly throughout your volunteer placement and will be presented to the local Public Health office prior to your departure.
Qualifications:
The following skills are desired: * Be a Public Health student or have relevant volunteer/work experience in the area of Public Health and Sexual Education * Posses at minimum an intermediate understanding of reproductive health issues * Be comfortable with public speaking * Excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking) * Open-minded * Culturally Sensitive * Quick to adapt and flexible

A fee of US$1200 is charged for a standard eight-week placement. This fee includes: * Accommodation (private room in a comfortable home-stay setting) * Three home cooked meals daily * 24/7 In-country support * Volunteer placement arrangements and follow-up (weekly check-ins) * Airport Pick-up * Airport Drop-off * Accra city tour upon arrival * Personalized Souvenir * Extensive Orientation package sent via email or regular mail pre-departure * Exit-Debriefing prior to departure
