Educational Project for a Clean Guayaquil

  Ecuador
  • All Other Regions of Ecuador:
  • Guayaquil

Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: April-December 2008

Description: The educational environmental community project has the objective to serve students, teachers and parents of families in 46 educational centers situated in the suburbs of Guayaquil city. At present, the Foundation has a team of three environmental promoters who carry out the works of the project. Nevertheless it has shown that the demands of the children require a better use of techniques like the separation of garbage and a responsible use of the water resources at recreational times. Additionally there are activities such as the environmental bingos, didactic games that require a leadership in order to broaden and strengthen the kids knowledge about environmental topics. That is why we are looking for volunteers.

Program Description
The Project aims at changing the environmental mentality of teachers, students and parents, introducing a cleaner philosophy and practice, knowledge and methods of production, in order to improve the standard of living in the educational sector and to guarantee the sustainability of the economic resources.

The project takes place in schools that work in the mornings and in the afternoons between April and December 2008. It is localized in three sectors of the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador: Sur-Guasmo Centro, Suburbio y Cisne II and Norte Bastion Popular.

We are five persons working on the Project, including the director. The staff works on base of a weekly plan. The volunteer is going to work 30 hours a week, six hours per day during four days, from 2.15 am to 1 pm and from 2.30 pm to 4 pm from Monday to Thursday. We are looking for a maximum of 4 volunteers.

Volunteer work activities
- Collaborate in the activities realized with the children of the eco groups in each school centre
- Assist in public events such as fairs and conferences where the citizens are participating, taking place at the malecon and other public places
- Assist in trainings to teachers and parents

Highlights: Free Time and Recreational Activities
