Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months, 7-12 months, 1-2 years and over 2 years
Dates: Fall 2008

Description: Teach at a bilingual elementary school in Honduras. Looking for 3rd and 4th grade teachers as well as a physical education teacher for Fall 2008. Teachers make a ten month (minimum) commitment to live and volunteer in Juticalpa. The Olancho Aid Foundation operates three schools: a high school, a bilingual elementary school, and a special needs school. At this time, we are seeking volunteers to begin in the Fall of 2008 to teach in Centro Escolar Santa Clara, the bilingual elementary school. Applications are reviewed year round and we encourage those interested to contact Olanco Aid Foundation Inc. for more information.

Highlights: The sun has barely climbed out from behind the hills of Olancho and already energy and enthusiasm are bursting from the classrooms of the Santa Clara School. The brightly colored uniforms that students wear are a perfect match for the vibrant learning environment that is Santa Clara.

The school is experiencing rapid growth, and now provides a bilingual education to the general public using course curriculum, bilingual instructors and foreign volunteers, while preparing children for secondary school and beyond.

Qualifications: For our school system, we are looking for qualified and dedicated teachers who believe that education is a necessary tool in liberating a people and a country from poverty. We seek volunteers motivated by human and Christian values which prepare citizens for life. We want enthusiastic and creative teachers, ready to make, at a minimum, a ten month commitment to teach our students and also help local teachers with educational methods that will excite both students and staff to excel and shape their own destinies.

A background in education is preferred, but applicants with a bachelor's degree in any field will be considered for year long teaching positions. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred, but not required. Other long and short term volunteer positions are available for groups and individuals, please contact us for more information.

Our staff, however, assists volunteers with transportation to and from the airport and with obtaining government permission to work and remain in the country.
