Description: The Waltz Volunteering Organization currently has opportunities to help develop communities throughout Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Volunteers and Interns have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of work, including Social work, conservation, education and training for children from under-privileged backgrounds and HIV/AIDS counseling, working in different humanitarian organizations, doing guiding and counseling and assisting the displaced people in the slums and in different parts of the country and much more. We offer different volunteer/Interns talents, just apply and we do the rest as we welcome you do change the lives of great people and learn more on cultural diversity here. All volunteers will have a chance to make a personal contribution and connection to the people of these great countries.

Waltz is a Samburu word which means "We all try to zoom in life." It was coined to encourage and help the Youth, children, people affected by HIV/AIDS and OVC know their potential and use it in the future for their positive survival.

Waltz Project operates from Waltz Center located along Ole Odume road about 6kms from city center (Nairobi). Waltz center serves the needs of youth, children, people living with HIV/AIDS, OVC, displaced people because of post election violence, manage Orphanages, runs a youth counseling show, empower youth and does volunteering work within the different areas through group therapy and income generating activities. The project emanated from Waltz Youth Show Project (WYSP) which was started in 1990 by late Missionary Antonio Walt, a counseling Missionary of Miami (USA) stationed at Kiserian (Ole Kajiado), to serve people living in the slums of Kibera, Ongata, Rongai and the area surrounding Nairobi. Dr. Walt was convinced that the best way to respond to the Youth/Children's needs was to start a community Youth-based care (YBC) program to cater for them. His strategy included training volunteers from the community to serve fellow community members within Kibera slums in Nairobi through home visits and referral to established schools and other facilities for their survival. Currently we are being involved in many other projects on the same in Uganda and Tanzania.

Programs offered by Waltz Volunteer Organization:

Children's Program: You have the opportunity to help children in need. Children who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS, children who have been abused by their parents, and children whose parents are not able to provide for them. These kids need love, attention, life skills and education so they can have a successful future free from poverty and filled with the same opportunities as others.

As a volunteer, you will mentor by becoming a big brother or sister to kids in a Children's Home. You will work along side local staff to help with classroom teaching and homework help, childcare, and daily operational running of the Home. Volunteers are also encouraged to initiate their own work by organizing art and crafts, music, dance, games, sports activities and day trips for the children. This role is suitable for a caring, motivated and self-directed person who has a love for children and has childcare experience.

Teaching Program: Quality education for both boys and girls is crucial in reducing poverty and promoting gender equality. As a volunteer, you will help to empower girls and boys by giving them the skills they need to overcome poverty and to make their voice heard. You can volunteer as a teacher at preschool, primary and secondary levels. At primary and secondary levels volunteer teachers can teach core subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, social sciences, and can initiate extra-curricular activities.

HIV/AIDS Program: Kenya has been hit hard by the HIV/AIDS epidemic with approximately 1.25 million adults and over 100,000 children infected. The aim of the HIV/AIDS program is to decrease the spread of HIV through raising awareness and education, increasing access to medical care and providing emotional support to those affected by HIV/AIDS within the community. You can visit HIV positive people, educate and counsel community and school groups and individuals, and provide basic medical care. Medical training is not necessary for all aspects of the program, but a background in HIV/AIDS and basic health care is required.

Medical/Health Program: Malaria, typhoid, pneumonia and tetanus are treatable diseases yet many still die in Kenya as a result of not receiving proper medical care. Government-run hospitals and medical clinics are ill equipped to handle the volume of people in need of care. Volunteers have the opportunity to work in the areas of general medical practice, maternal health, minor surgery and laboratory work. This role is suitable for self-directed, caring people who are medically qualified.

Maasailand Program: The Maasai have largely managed to remain outside of mainstream African culture and maintain their traditional ways, although this becomes more challenging each year. For this reason, Maasai are increasingly seeking the opportunities African society has to offer. With little government support Maasai struggle to find teachers and medical professionals to work in their schools and medical clinics.

Teaching Program in Massailand: It is estimated that less than half of all Maasai children attend schools, teaching volunteers are urgently needed to help reverse this trend. Volunteers have the opportunity to educate children at primary school level. Subjects taught include English, math, science and social studies. Volunteers are also encouraged to initiate extra-curricular activities.

Medical Program: Medically qualified volunteers are needed to work in community clinics to increase access to basic healthcare and promote health education in the local community.

Coastal Region Program: Kindly note that the above programs can be applied in the coastal region by offering the sane experience like that of Maasailand bit there you will deal with Swahili people in one of our Orphanages at Taveta. Remember, it's here where you get the beaches of Indian Ocean. The Kenyan coast is lined with pristine white sand beaches fringing the warm inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. Here, the wilderness meets the sea, and the ocean itself holds a world of spectacular coral reefs teeming with life and colour.

Orphanages: e.g. Planet children homes, Nanyuki children home St. Michaels', Lelewu homes, St. Vincent home, Ushirka Centre and Waltz rescue centres. Children's home for the disabled. Here volunteers are required to help with feeding, counsel, motivate, cleaning, cooking, and taking care of the children.

Rescue homes: Here, girls who are forcefully married of at an early age and those who are forced to undergo the process of circumcision are rescued and given a second chance to enjoy their childhood by providing love and care just like home. Here, the volunteers are required to guide, counsel and provide love and understanding to them. Here, volunteers will help in distributing the basic needs to the refuges especially this time there is crashes and also guide and cancel the children who have been affected by trauma. Work towards helping the displaced people in our country caused by the last election violence.

Doctors/Nurses Program:This is a program that is collaborated with the government of Kenya where we get Doctors/Nurses to help in our hospitals; volunteers are able to show their skills to the local community in different hospitals around the country. They will also be able to participate in our Amka/Waltz Projects.

Conservation programs: Volunteers who have person for the conservation of the green society find their passion here, they work directly with conservations organization like Kenya Wildlife and Ministry of Environment and forestry on the conservation issues. Participate in daily tree planting and other activities to protect nature.

Typical Volunteer:

• Minimum 5 hours per day, 5 days per week during the hours of 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
• Your project will have its own expectations in regards to your volunteer responsibilities and duties, but you are also expected to bring your own knowledge and skills with you and posses a positive outlook and a proactive style towards your work in order for your volunteer time to be successful.
• Sole and assistant teaching and homework help; extracurricular activities (can be initiated); and building maintenance (can be initiated). All tasks provide part-time work, so volunteers must choose at least 2 activities to fill their day.
• You are encouraged to use initiative and take a hands-on approach to your work by setting up new project initiatives and creating activities. Please note all new initiatives will need to be discussed with your supervisor
