Serving Impoverished Families in Argentina
Argentina
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Flexible, Year Round
Description:
Go beyond tourism - experience Argentina while helping impoverished families. This non-profit, non-governmental organization provides services and protection to the part of Cordoba's population that suffers from extreme poverty. The principle objective of the project is to promote a sense of dignity thus transmitting a feeling of self-worth to each individual as well as provide them with the means and knowledge to improve their own situation. The project consists of a food distribution program, a small pasta factory to generate income and teach professional skills, a second-hand clothing shop, a day-care center for around 70 children and a variety of community workshops. Help is needed in all areas of the project. Volunteers can work on the food program, in the pasta factory, with the children in the day-care, help organize clothes in the shop, or assist in workshop development and implementation. Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. Two meals a day with your host family are included in your stay. **No meals are served on Sundays. Our staff in the U.S. are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their insight and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Argentina are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that each volunteer's experience is the best it can be. You will be met at the airport and will receive a personal orientation to your new home and your project within the first few days of your arrival. A staff member in Argentina will be available to you throughout your program.
