Community Development in Buenos Aires
Argentina
- Buenos Aires:
Buenos Aires
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks and 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Flexible, Year Round
Description:
Experience Argentina from a unique neighborhood perspective. Since opening its doors, this project has served many impoverished community residents in the Mataderos neighborhood. Assisting children, teenagers and some adults, this project focuses on the importance of education and personal development. There is a day-care on site as well as a center for the youth offering homework help, theater workshops, art projects, gym and sports activities, English and German lessons, and other educational trainings. Even in tough times, this project gives the people hope, faith, and the opportunity to make a change. Volunteers are needed to help with all the ongoing workshops, English lessons, and with homework assistance. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their creative ideas so that with the support of other staff members can implement new workshops for the youth. Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. Two meals a day with your host family are included in your stay. **No meals are served on Sundays. Our staff in the U.S. are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their insight and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Argentina are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that each volunteer's experience is the best it can be. You will be met at the airport and will receive a personal orientation to your new home and your project within the first few days of your arrival. A staff member in Argentina will be available to you throughout your program.
