Prisoner Reintegration Project in Argentina
Argentina
- Buenos Aires:
Buenos Aires
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Description:
Get to know famous Buenos Aires from a unique perspective. This association fosters the social and professional reinsertion of ex-prisoners into society. This is achieved by promoting human dignity, family counseling, and skills training. The center offers workshops on social and technical skills as well as offers emotional support. One of the largest initiatives is to teach the ex-prisoners how to repair and operate PCs giving them the tools to then open their own businesses. All the computers that are fixed during the training sessions are then donated to needy schools around the city. The project also operates many programs inside prisons to help educate current inmates to start the reintegration process early. Volunteers can work with the PC project including teaching the prisoners new computer programs. Help is also needed with public relations, organizing new workshops, teaching English to prisoners and helping the project secure more financial resources for further program development and support. Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. Two meals a day with your host family are included in your stay. **No meals are served on Sundays. Our staff in the U.S. are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their insight and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Argentina are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that each volunteer's experience is the best it can be. You will be met at the airport and will receive a personal orientation to your new home and your project within the first few days of your arrival. A staff member in Argentina will be available to you throughout your program.
