Home for Disabled Adolescents in Argentina
Argentina
Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Flexible, Year Round
Description:
Get to know the real Argentina while you use your talents and skills to help Argentinean children in need. This home provides disabled adolescents with education and recreational activities in order to teach them how to live on their own. Although all residents are mentally or physically disabled, none of them will live indefinitely at the home. Through professional and life-skills workshops, the staff aims to make every adolescent aspire to meet future goals. The staff and volunteers also engage in community outreach to educate society that a disability does not mean that a person cannot live and work on his or her own. Volunteers are needed to help organize recreational activities for the adolescents including sports, games, arts, or music. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own ideas to engage the youth. Other responsibilities can include organizing workshops for youth and community, engaging in outreach efforts in the neighborhood, helping the youth understand everyday activities and working in small groups for academic tutoring. You will work side by side with Argentineans on this locally designed and run project. You will stay with a carefully screened and welcoming host family, giving you insight into daily life in Argentina. Our staff in the U.S. are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their experiences and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Argentina are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that all our volunteers have a rewarding experience. All volunteers will be taken to their host family upon arrival and given an orientation within the first few days.
