Description:
Teaching English to the children in Nepal is at times challenging, but seeing their progression and enthusiasm make the overall experience extremely satisfying. The volunteers will get the opportunity to teach students who are eager to improve their conversational English skills. Volunteers in this program will teach English to children in government schools; you can also teach in other disciplines such as math, science, music, geography, art, dance, etc. Depending on your specific area of expertise. The students that you will be teaching range from 5-16 years old, and are typical in groups of around 30-50 students per class. The subject material that you will be teaching i.e. the curriculum for the key subjects will be taken from the Nepali students' standard book. However volunteers are also encouraged to create their own lesson plans; lots of inspiration for classes can be found online as well. The age range of children is approximately 5-16 years old and the teaching curriculum for each major subject is based on the students' standard book. Volunteers are also encouraged to create their own lesson plans; lots of inspiration for classes can be found online as well. Each institution has its own permanent staff member who assists volunteers with their teaching and in communicating with the children and colleagues. Classes generally run six days a week, with four to six class periods each day and a break for lunch. Teaching English includes: Teaching English at the school, Orphanage, women's group and village community library. Suggestions - Depending on the subject, volunteers can bring along teaching materials such as picture books, instruments, flash cards, art supplies, and songs. (and a good sense of humor!) Volunteer for Community Development Nepal (VCD Nepal)'s Mission Statement: VCD Nepal (Volunteer for Community Development - Nepal) is an officially registered non-governmental volunteer organization. It is a non-profitable organization, registered with the social welfare council. Our mission is to increase awareness of the importance of the English language in Nepal, and to facilitate the learning of English. We arrange placements of English teachers in rural government schools and communities. We also send trained volunteers to remote parts of Nepal to promote community awareness with regards to environmental and primary health issues, income-generating activities and sanitation.
Nepal is a country with a rich culture. However, as in other third-world countries, more than 80% of our people have to live with inadequate provisions for health and nutrition, poor sanitation and a lack of education. VCD Nepal was created to address these health and educational needs. The ultimate goal of VCD Nepal is to give Nepali people the necessary tools to help themselves. Your time, talent and contributions can help us do that. VCD Nepal offers the unique opportunity to experience the richness of life in Nepal at first hand, while having a direct influence on the quality of life for its people.
