Life Bridge Literacy Program

Description: This Non-Governmental Organization has as its core business, to engage government, non government, and other stake holders in developing innovative, self sustainable and comprehensive educational programs to improve the life and well being of individuals especially children and the society as a whole.

The mission of Life Bridge is to train and work with well resourced institutions and professionals to prepare the students to excel academically and socially. This will be achieved by providing students with effective academic programs, entrepreneurial skills, applied research, extra-curricular activities and mentorship.

Ongoing programmes include:

* Reading & Resource Centre
* Adult Literacy Programme
* Nursery & Creche
* Homework Club
* Saturday Childcare Services
* Post Marital Counseling

Placement Opportunities

1. Nursery Coordinator
A coordinator is required for the day-to-day running of the Nursery. This will include planning, implementing and evaluating the nursery programme, including the provision of well balanced snacks and exercise through play. The ideal candidate will have previous child care experience.

2. Adult Literacy Instructor
An instructor is required for the day-to-day running of the Adult Literacy Programme. This will include planning, implementing and evaluating the Adult Literacy Programme, including encouraging more people to participate in the programme.

3. Reading Club Coordinator
A coordinator is required for the day-to-day running of the Reading Club. This will include planning, implementing and evaluating the reading programme, including helping the members to read. The organization are looking for outgoing and lively volunteers who are happy to get stuck in.

4. Child Care Assistant
A child care assistant is required to help with the looking after of children in the creche and nursery, this includes washing & feeding the children. The assistant will be required to give lots of love and attention to the children.

5. Administrator
The foundation requires an administrator to help with the day-to-day running of the organisation and help it implement it's five-year programme. The ideal candidate will have previous administrative experience.

6. Web designer
The volunteer will be working on the website for the foundation. The website needs to include information on the projects and its members, and provide a holistic view of the foundation.

7. Fundraiser
A volunteer Fundraiser is required to write grants, develop a fundraising plan and research and develop new partnerships. This will include planning and running fundraising events.

The volunteer needs to be flexible and tolerant, show initiative and enthusiasm to face the many hurdles and challenges that you will encounter.

Highlights: Health and Safety

There are a number of health clinics and hospitals in the area. The local hospital in Osu is open 24/7. Volunteers should show due care and diligence whilst in placement. We recommend volunteers do not walk alone at night. Refrain from bringing expensive items as these attract attention.

Qualifications:
- Be 18 years old or over
- Have fully completed and returned to Ikando the Volunteer Application Form.
- Have sent us your up to date CV (resume).
- Have provided us a personal or professional reference given by an employer, teacher, lawyer or doctor. This reference must include detail of the context in which the referee knows you, verifying your CV and stating that he/she knows of no reason why you should not volunteer. The referee should also provide their contact details in order that Ikando can contact them prior to your departure to confirm the reference given. This reference should be emailed by the referee to us.
- Have made full payment 60 days prior to departure
- Have read our terms & conditions
- Have provided Ikando with photocopies of your travel and medical insurance certificates
- Have provided a photocopy of the back page of your passport (just in case these documents are mislaid during travel).
- Have sent us information on your travel arrangements (flight number, airline, arrival and departure time and dates). We always recommend volunteers who book via the web to email us their booking.
- Have provided Ikando with all other required documentation two weeks before arrival.
