Description:
Set on the South East Coast of Sri Lanka, this school and education center for English and IT. The objective of the Lideke Wery Foundation is to strengthen English language and ICT skills in the tsunami-struck area in Sri Lanka. Aims and Objectives: * Help to rebuild the underprivileged and tsunami affected communities * Strengthen education in the communities * Provide education to students that have passed at least G.C.E. O/L or A/L exam (school leavers of 16 years and older) * Teach and upgrade English language skills on different levels * Teach and upgrade ICT skills on different levels * Provide English and ICT courses with a job-orientated design * Increase job opportunities * Increase self awareness * Volunteers can help in class and engage with current staff and teachers in a range of teaching activities to enhance the prospects of the local children,many of whom lost their parents in th 04 Tsunami.
Highlights:
Located in a very scenic coastal district, this placement would provide a volunteer with a busy time in and out of schools as there is much to see and do. Ancient cities, temples, deserted beaches, lagoons, wildlife. A great all round project for those wishes to learn about a culture as much as helping it.
Qualifications:
Trainee teachers or teachers of course are welcome. But if you have other skills you can teach such as computer knowlege, sports, art etc we would like to hear from you. Fomral qualifications are not essential.
