Description:
Each year, hundreds of children leave their destitute villages to find work in Nepal's crowded cities. Most of these children deprived of education end working as child laborers in restaurants, factories, and hotels. These disadvantaged children need attention, love, care, and the opportunity for education. The Orphanage Volunteer program in Nepal under VIN offers the street children the support and devotion they deserve. Volunteers teach Basic English, creative works and other subjects such as math and science to these eager learners. As a volunteer, you also organize tours, games, drawings, singing, dancing, painting and other activities that the children enjoy and also learn something at the same time. Volunteers may help the children prepare for school, and help with their homework. VIN Volunteering in Nepal Orphanage program is an enriching and life changing experience for our volunteers as well as the children. Many of our former volunteers have reported that this project, in particular, has been memorable and fulfilling, and has changed the way they view the world. VIN has been working with two different orphanages of Kathmandu. There are 9 kids in one orphanage and 15 in the other and supporting them by making donations and placing volunteers. VIN is also in a process of establishing one more orphanage in Kathmandu. Most of the orphanages in Nepal are poor resourced , under staffed, and are struggling to run their programs. There is urgent need of any kinds of help and support. There are many areas where volunteers can use their education, skills, and time making meaningful contributions in the life of orphan kids of Nepal. Helps are urgently needed in education, skill training, sanitation, and administration. Volunteer's Role VIN runs different educational and skill training programs for orphans under VIN child care in Nepal. So depending on the need of project and skill/interest of participants, volunteers can get involved in any of following activities: * Teach English (2-3 hours a day) in orphanage or school (when the orphanage kids go to schools during the day) * Sanitation (helping kids in brushing teeth, shower, and personal hygiene) * Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extra curricular activities * Taking kids on educational tours * Helping kids to do homework, monitor academic progress, and make sure kids complete next day's homework * Child care services for orphans who can not go to school * Help kids to dress up and reach safely to school * Help in food distribution, kitchen, and kitchen garden * Other helps on administration * Help in other activities or programs designed for kids Skills/Qualifications Needed There is no need of specific qualification for Orphanage Programs in Nepal. However, volunteer interested to work for orphans children must have love for the children and willingness to share time and passion for them. Room/Food/Supervision VIN manages room/food for volunteer. In most of the cases, volunteer stay with kids in the orphanage where we manage a separate room and Nepali food three times a day for volunteers. In most cases, volunteers stay with host family. Location Descriptions Orphanage programs are located in the outside area of Kathmandu (within 6 - 10 KM). Kathmandu is a vigorous capital city of Nepal with places of great tourist attractions like Thamel, Patan, Swaymbhu, etc. Kathmandu has a wide range of restaurants, internet cafés, clubs, shopping centers, and banks. The volunteers also have numerous opportunities to explore the sites under cultural heritage during free time. Our volunteers can simply hike in near by villages, ride bikes in Kathmandu, walk around the tourist city of Thamel, the options are many. Working with the Street Children VIN also mobilizes it volunteers to support the street children placing with othe partner organizations who have expertise to work with them. The volunteers can do research and recommend the solutions to these kids. They can be sent to the day boarders or even to schools. They need more counseling to bring them into main streaming of education. To do so they need shelters! Want to help them. They deserve to have basic rights to food, shelter, education and health. Working with Elderly Citizen We also support interested personnel who want to serve elderly people, however this is not our main focus. Interested volunteers will be placed in the care centers for the elderly and can help the elderly citizens with their daily activities. If you love to serve elderly people then contact us. We can be the right hand to help you work with them.
