Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Flexible

Description: The teach English program is located in a small educational center in the north of the city of Cordoba. This center offers many different community services including acting as a full daycare for more than 50 children from one to three years old. In the afternoons, it becomes an after school shelter for children between the ages of six and fourteen. The project is situated in the impoverished neighborhood of Barrio Arguello IPV. One of the main goals of this center is to ease the burden of local mothers by giving their children a safe and positive place to go during the day. It is also committed to giving older children a safe place to go after school that will reinforce them with a positive environment.

Teach English in Cordoba

Highlights: As participants in this program, volunteers will mainly be involved in the various workshops held for the children. These include arts and crafts and homework support. Homework support is obviously very important, helping both the children and the local teachers. There are also workshops for local women and mothers such as knitting. The newest and most important workshop that volunteers can help in is English classes. These are extremely needed as many of the local children have failed their English exams and due to their situation of poverty and the poor education system, feel as though they will never be able to learn the language. The center may be the only place that they can learn and interact with someone who speaks English as their primary language.

Volunteer activities may include:
* Teaching English to children
* Assisting teachers with workshops
* Helping children with their homework
* Help play with and look after children in the daycare
* Create and teach educational workshops about their home country
* Assist teachers and staff with general cleaning of the center
