Las Mercedes Reforestation Project

Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: anytime anyday

Description: What we can offer to our volunteers:
- Housing
- Warm meals
- Spanish Lessons (Grammar and conversational, 1 hour every day)
- Horseback rides (at anytime)
- The opportunity to experiment with the designing or making of organic fertilizers, irrigation systems, building constructions.
- Salsa dance lessons
- Excursions on weekends, same as visits daily if necessary to the local town of Ocotal,
- Pick up and drop off at the airport in Managua.

If working in the field or planting trees is not your cup of tea, here is a list of some of the projects going on around our property, in the Savana Grande Community. You are welcome to volunteer at anyone of these projects while staying with us.

- Integration of Solar Panels as a power source (you will learn how to put together the whole system)
- Organic production of Vegetables
- Educational projects with the nearby elementary schools
- Health Care project (volunteer your time at the local health clinic)

Qualifications: No qualifications are required, please call and we can help. All you need is the desire to plant some trees and make a difference in the enviroment.

    We ask for US$ 20 dollars per day in order to cover your meals, horseback rides, transportation to the town, housing and utilitiy bills.
    We also accept donations and any new Ideas you can bring to our project.

  • Typical Volunteer: A typical volunteer at our project are those that wish to make a difference and learn about the environment, they wish to experience a 3rd world country, travel, learn or better their Spanish. Some are teachers that wish to share their knowledge about living green or in harmony with the land, at the same time they will become students and learn how to dance Salsa, cook, paint, and work with ceramics or wood. Our project will change your life. A lot of or volunteers wish to comeback and some of them will never leave, it's so easy to fall in love with Linda Nicaragua.

    This Program is open to American, Australian, Canadian, European, Kiwi, South African and World Wide Participants. This Program is also open to Families, Couples and Individuals

    Las Mercedes Reforestation Project's Mission Statement: We are a local family willing to make a difference in the ecology of Nicaragua. We wish to convert our farm land, about 30 acres, back to what it originally was, a beautiful forest full of wild life through the planting of approximately 30,000 trees, the building of a small pond, construction of a new water well, design and construction of irrigation system, the integration of a solar energy system to power and self sustain the farm house and the construction of an organic vegetable garden and planting of fruit trees.
