Adventure Aid (AA) is a U.S. NGO whose mission is to bring together people who have skills, knowledge and energy with sustainable community programs and projects. Along with the volunteer work is an ecotourism experience in the surrounding area. We work with you and Tanzanian locals to put together a unique volunteer experience. Tanzania is one of the great safari destinations of Africa and the northern tier of the country is especially well-endowed. Perhaps nowhere else in Africa are so many diverse parks located in such close proximity to each other and to significant international airline connections. Although the following trips have been created with the volunteers from Adventure Aid to Sanya Juu in mind, they can easily stand alone or in combination with each other as destinations available to the general public.
Highlights:
Siha district of Tanzania is a new governing district formed in July, 2005. It is located in an area of remarkable beauty on the plateau between Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru in Tanzania. It is a 20 minute drive on good roads from Mt. Kilimanjaro International Airport. Sanya Juu is the principal town of 12,000 people in the district of 120,000 people living on an area of 1158 sq. kilometers. Opportunities exist to volunteer in the community in the areas of educational, medical, and economic development programs.
Qualifications:
We work with you and Tanzanian locals to put together a unique volunteer experience. Educational Programs [1] There are positions to help train teachers to improve their English language teaching skills. There are also opportunities to teach students in primary and secondary schools in the District. Skills and interests: People with educational experience especially teaching English as a second language. People who wish to spend time talking and assisting in the classrooms are also needed. [2] There are positions to help training trainers in IT. There are also opportunities to work with students in primary and secondary schools to teach computer skills. Skills and interests: People with either basic or advanced computer skills. Medical Programs [1] Training of doctors to perform tubal ligations. Also work in a region hospital Skills and interest: Board certified OB GYN physician or FP who performs Tubal ligations [2] Conduct a workshop for physicians and clinicians on cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes. Also work in a regional hospital Skills and interest: Internists, Family practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants [3] Training nurses about different family planning methods Skills: Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, family planning counselors [4] Train physical therapy aids and work with children with physical disabilities at a special school for these children Skills and interests: Physical Therapist, P. T. assistants and technicians. People without special training are also invited to help with these children [5] AIDS education and prevention training for teachers and health care workers Skills and interest: Family planning and AIDS educators, physicians, nurses, other health care workers with training in these areas. Economic Development Programs [1] Work with small business projects. Skills and interests: Web designers, business knowledge in financial planning and small business management, business entrepreneurship skills and marketing and agricultural research skills. This is an opportunity to work with the community to develop business opportunities for its people.
