    Rural Areas

Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: Volunteer Kotlas is a new programme set up in partnership with Lyceum 3 in Kotlas in the Arkhangelsk Region of Russia. The volunteer spends a minimum of 6 weeks assisting in English lessons in a school.

This new and exciting opportunity is for those who want to experience life in Russia away from the westernised capitals. Volunteering in Kotlas is an excellent way to immerse oneself in the culture of Russia and meet Russians who have had little exposure to foreigners. For those who want to come to Russia to improve their Russian language, spending time in a provincial town can truly help to rapidly improve the volunteer's level of Russian.

After arriving in Moscow, the volunteer travels to Kotlas to begin assisting in English lessons at Lyceum 3. The volunteer works 20-25 hours per week as an assistant to trained teachers at the school, who are native Russian speakers. Therefore, as a native English-speaker, the volunteer is invaluable in the classroom. As part of the programme, the volunteer can also attend up to 5 hours per week of Russian lessons. The volunteer benefits from experiencing a Russian-speaking environment on a daily basis at the school.
