Training peer educators and sensitizing rural communities about HIV and AIDS

  Togo

Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: July 12 - August 1

Description: After the successful realisation of volunteer workcamps on the topic of STDs/HIV/AIDS in the last four years, the project is continued with the aim to raise awareness among the people in the villages through discussions, games and theatre plays on this theme. At the end of the workcamp, the volunteers and the young people of the village will perform a theatre play on stage together. Also, the volunteers will prepare young people of the village to further educate kids in the schools on the topic of STDs/HIV/AIDS after the project has finished.

After getting a training from a specialist physician, the volunteers will get involved on local level in social mobilisation against STD/HIV/AIDS in rural communities in Togo.

They will identify local associations working in this field or with young people.

The volunteers will give a training to young people in local communities who will become peer educators. The work will consist of going house to house to have discussions with people. The volunteers will also prepare a theatre play which will be presented at the end of the project to the general public.

The project is based in Agotimé Nyitoé in Agou district, about 35 km far from Kpalime. Through this village, you can go straight to Ghana. The climate is the same as in Agou and Kpalime area.

There is an extra fee of 183 Euro for participation in this volunteer project, intended to support the hosting organization.
