Description:
We are a small non-profit Spanish and Mam school located in Todos Santos, a rural and traditional town in the mountains of Guatemala, near the Mexican border. Our proceeds go towards scholarships for local children. We are currently seeking a coordinator. We are looking for a minimum one-month commitment. The responsibilities of the coordinator include: - being available in the school to greet prospective students when they arrive - pairing-up students with teachers and homestay families - responding to the school's daily correspondence - book-keeping and purchasing necessary items for the school's daily operation - general upkeep of the school premises - planning and implementing a weekly programme of activities - using the school's maps to lead hikes in the local area However there are also a lot of opportunities for the coordinator to expand the position and get involved in their own local projects.
Highlights:
- free accomodation with bathroom and kitchen facility within the school (this essentially means that you will be available in the school all day)which is one of the most beautiful houses of Todos Santos (with garden) - a weekly stipend, varying depending on the number of students studying in the school, but typically between 100 and 300 quetzales a week (13 40 dollars a week: sufficient to cover basic living expenses in Todos Santos) - free use of internet
Qualifications:
- very sociable (as you will be living in the school, you will spend a lot of time in the company of students and teachers alike) - conversant and literate in English to an advanced level and Spanish to at least low-intermediate level (there is the opportunity to study spanish with this school) - organized and able to work on own initiative - culturally-sensitive and able to work with people from many different backgrounds - interested in cooking and hiking
Salary / Pay: typically between 100 and 300 quetzales a week (13 - 40 dollars a week)

Spanish Academy Hispanomaya's Mission Statement: Hispanomaya was founded in 1998 by a group of local teachers interested in providing scholarships to local children unable to afford school. For this purpose, they started the non-profit cooperatively-run school and activity center, Hispanomaya.
