Educational and leisure activities for disadvantaged children in a poor fishing village

Dates: until January 15, 2010

Description: There are 25-30 children who are street children and come from a poor fishing village. After 3 years of collaboration with local volunteer organizations and with the help of volunteers and "Un Etai pour le Vietnam", most of the children now have basic education and study well in a public school.

To help children have a better future, the international volunteers will help run a new school for street children and children in a poor fishing village, located in the outskirts of Hanoi. Volunteers will be responsible for cooking lunch for the children and teaching them basic things about their countries, health, etc. (with the help of local volunteers). The volunteers will also organize some leisure activities for youth after school. This is a time for cultural exchange and embracing new relationships.

The project dates are:
October 19 - October 30, 2009
November 2 - November 13, 2009
November 16 - November 27, 2009
November 30 - December 11, 2009
January 4 - January 15, 2010

There is an extra fee of 150 Euro for participation in this workcamp, intended to support the hosting organization.

Educational and leisure activities for disadvantaged children in a poor fishing village

Qualifications: Volunteers should be prepared to work with children having social problems although they are very friendly. The volunteers will work in a different social and cultural environment and have to be flexible. They are expected to be motivated and to participate actively in the running of the project.
