Description:
A unique opportunity for a charity, corporate or organisation's group to volunteer help at La Marina Wildlife Refuge Centre before immersing yourself in the fascinating and diverse landscape of Costa Rica. La Marina Wildlife Refuge Centre is located in a small forest to the north west of San Jose, in the province of Alajuela. The project was started by the grandfather of the current owner and his vision has been continued. The centre's objectives are to conserve, protect, reintroduce, and raise several wild species that have been removed from their natural environment as a result of repossession, hunting, habitat destruction, and the ignorance of humans and to encourage the protection of the plant and animal species of the area. You will help with the maintenance of the trails, to improve and repair facilities, prepare food for the animals, and assist the people who handle the animals. During the project work you will be accommodated with a local family, an excellent way to immerse yourself in the Costa Rican culture. Your discovery of Costa Rica begins in the Rainforest. Rara Avis is kept in pristine condition due to its inaccessibility, so inaccessible that you will be transported there by tractor! A specialist guide will introduce you to the rainforest and you may get the chance to swim in the crystalline pools at the base of the waterfall. The Arenal Volcano last erupted in 1969 but is far from dormant, still regularly spewing ash and smoke, and after nightfall the spectacle of Arenal's bright red lava coursing its way down from the cone is an awesome sight indeed. Walk along the hanging bridges of Arenal and discover its birds and tropical plants. Near the volcano are the Tabacon Hot Springs, a chance to take a dip in the natural mineral hot springs that descend from the volcano. Saying good-bye to the Mountain of Fire we continue to the Cloud Forest. Monteverde Cloud Forest sits at above 5000ft, and here you'll have the opportunity to literally walk above the trees on the sky bridges as well as exploring the forest at ground level. Finally you'll enter the Palo Verde National Park, located on the Pacific slopes of north-western Costa Rica, to explore Costa Rica's mangrove jungle by boat. The culmination of a wonderful trip exploring the variety of landscapes that make up Costa Rica.
