Day Care Center for Children Affected by HIV in Argentina
Argentina
- Buenos Aires:
Buenos Aires
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Flexible, Year Round
Description:
Get to know the real Argentina while you use your talents and skills to help Argentinean children in need. This day care for children ages 6-16 years old offers daily care and attention to those who live with the reality of AIDS or HIV. Some of the children have lost family members due to this disease while others have been infected themselves. In the center, the children receive lunch, an afternoon snack, homework support, and enjoy a variety of workshops that include dancing, singing, handicrafts, computers, sexual education, and English classes. All children come from very impoverished neighborhoods and have received little formal education. Volunteers are needed to help with any and all of the workshops and are even encouraged to create their own. Teaching positive values and hygiene habits are very important to providing basic tools that the children will need to live healthy lives. Volunteers will also help to organize other recreational activities as well as provide academic support through tutoring. You will work side by side with Argentineans on this locally designed and run project. You will stay with a carefully screened and welcoming host family, giving you insight into daily life in Argentina. Our staff in the U.S. are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their experiences and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Argentina are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that all our volunteers have a rewarding experience. All volunteers will be taken to their host family upon arrival and given an orientation within the first few days.
