Business Internships in Mongolia with Projects Abroad

  Mongolia
    Ulaanbaatar

Term: Throughout the year
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Year-Round/Rolling-Starts

Description: Since the democratic revolution of 1990, Mongolia's capital has become one of the fastest-growing cities in Central Asia. Ulaanbaatar now has many surprising opportunities for business growth.

The country's major industries include mining, agriculture and cashmere. China, Russia, the US and Canada are some of Mongolia's major trading partners. Many world famous corporations are doing business in Mongolia and more than 70 countries having already invested in the country. As well as planning to increase its economic trade with neighboring countries, Mongolia is also eager to boost its tourist industry.

There are opportunities for those who wish to work within the areas of business administration, management, new tourism, catering and service sectors. For volunteers who are on a gap-year or studying a related subject in college, or those looking for employment in a particular sector, our voluntary business internships in Mongolia offer you an invaluable opportunity to gain work experience that will increase your prospects in a highly competitive job market.

Business Internship Opportunities with Projects Abroad in Mongolia

We have volunteer placements for you in business administration and management, and in a wide range of manufacturing and service companies, including those in the growing tourism industry. Imports account for around 90 percent of Mongolia's consumer spending and, as a result, trading companies dominate the economy. Hotels and even Mongolian Airlines are happy to take on volunteers.

If you have an interest in a different area of business please let us know and, provided we have been given enough notice, we will work hard to find a placement to suit your requirements. Please contact us for more information.

Volunteering on a Business Internship Placement in Mongolia

A voluntary placement in the business sector could involve you working with a director or general manager of a small or medium-sized company, often handling cross-border contracts with Russian and Chinese clients. Hotels, publishers and various other industries are also happy to host volunteers on work experience placements.

During the placement, volunteers are expected to be punctual and professional and are required to work normal office hours. When you arrive at work on your first day, you will be assigned a supervisor who will be able to advise and support you during your placement, and of course Projects Abroad staff are always on hand too, if you should have any questions or problems.

The work you do will depend on the placement, but be prepared for a challenge! You will get involved with the day-to-day activities of the office whether they are contacting different clients, working with business support teams, researching for current or future projects, putting together portfolios, attending meetings or working on set briefs.

For your colleagues, exposure to an English language speaker is highly valuable as it will enable them to advance their own language skills. Work colleagues will often have good levels of English but will be eager to learn more! You might find yourself teaching a few informal bits of English at times or proofreading texts, and you will probably find yourself receiving dinner invitations too!

Whichever voluntary placement you are working on, your input will be greatly encouraged and appreciated. Take the opportunity to make your own suggestions, explain about how things work back home or learn some of the language! Your adaptability and willingness to learn will be greatly appreciated.

Business Internships in Mongolia with Projects Abroad

Highlights: Mongolia is a unique and adventurous place to spend time on a volunteer program or internship. Mongolia is a large country about a third the size of Europe sandwiched between Russia and China on the Asian Steppe. It's a country that conjures up images of far-off lands and a completely different pace of life. This image really is reality, in this land of Genghis Khan and wandering nomadic clans.

This is a destination for adventurers, with a history that encompasses Chinese dynasties and Soviet Communism. It's hard to imagine that this ancient state was once home to the people who ruled the largest empire the world has ever known - at one point stretching from Indonesia right over into Austria! The modern Mongolian is a descendant of Genghis Khan, a son or daughter of the Communist era and is living in a 21st century ancient state where Buddhist priests drive in Japanese jeeps across desert roads to their distant monasteries.

All accommodation is organized, paid for and monitored by Projects Abroad. All project placements are regularly visited and checked. We require high standards of supervision and accommodation, which are verified before you arrive in Mongolia.

This project offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.

Year Founded: 1992
