Costa Rica Volunteer- Promote Change in Costa Rican Women's Clubs
Costa Rica
- North Western Region:
Heredia
- Eastern Lowlands:
Guapiles
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Description:
Support positive education by creating community and teamwork in local womens clubs. Several local groups of women have paired with Sustainable Horizon to embrace and celebrate the spirit of women. In Latin America women are faced with threats to their independence, health and well-being. They receive less education than men, have disproportionate household responsibilities and are often faced with sexual and domestic violence. Unity between community women helps them build self-confidence and pursue healthy lifestyles. They are able to work together, learn from each other and explore new activities and topics of discussion. Help these groups make handcrafts to start contributing to their own financial needs and advise them on marketing and new selling techniques. Discuss topics that affect their lives and positive methods of change for the future. You can contribute to the sustainability of these groups by being a positive enforcer of change in womens lives! Filled with fascinating rainforests, expansive mountains and untamed winding rivers Costa Rica's diversity in flora and fauna will take even the most experienced traveler's breath away! This cultural Mecca is wedged between the Pacific and Caribbean Oceans and has several sun-kissed beaches and swaying palm trees amidst active volcanoes, sultry hot springs and bustling city centers. This tropical country is a Latin American oasis that is politically neutral and a supreme model of efficient environmental conservation and eco- tourism. From program inception to completion, a Sustainable Horizon representative works closely with participants to develop and execute a customized international volunteer experience striving to meet and exceed all goals and expectations. A Sustainable Horizon representative will also be present in-country for volunteer support and assistance for the duration of the program. In providing personalized programs, our volunteers are ensured a successful, challenging, meaningful and memorable experience abroad.
