Description:
* Teach English as a foreign language at basic to intermediate level * Ages 13 through 18 (public high school) * Conduct teacher training with local English teachers Background The high school, Colegio Fray Agustìn de Azkùnaga, is located on Isabela Island in the Galàpagos. Isabela is the largest of the 13 islands physically, but ranks third out of the four populated islands, with about 2,500 people. The colegio is a public, Catholic school with about 190 students and six grade levels. (No religious affiliation or belief required.) This volunteer position will compliment the presence of two salaried local English professors, as well as two returning volunteer teachers, Shao Lan from England who will teach the first semester (April-August), and Laura Bechdel from the U.S. who will teach the second semester (September-January). The volunteer teacher position originated in March 2007 through the efforts and support of Isabela Oceanographic Institute (IOI), a conservation and marine-sciences study abroad university on Isabela island, and is part of IOI´s community support program. Qualifications:
