Description:
Get to know the real Ecuador while you lend a hand to a small school struggling to provide a quality education to its young students. Volunteers are needed to help tutor children in small groups, teach English, aid the teacher with classroom projects, organize recreational activities, engage in community renewal projects with the families, and are even given the chance to teach their own class! The town of Rio Verde continues to grow in population each year with more and more children in need of basic education. This small school located in the town's center has had to adapt to increasing enrollment. With five classrooms and a kindergarten, you can constantly hear the hum of everything from times tables to history lessons. Classrooms are normally divided by grades with one teacher for each. With large numbers and no help, it can often be difficult for teachers to keep up with individual students' needs, so caring volunteers are always welcome. You will work side by side with Ecuadorians on this locally designed and run project. You will stay with a carefully screened and welcoming host family, giving you insight into daily life in Ecuador. Our staff in the US are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their experiences and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Ecuador are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that all volunteers have a rewarding experience. All volunteers will be met at the airport in Quito, given an orientation and overnight stay, and then taken to the bus station the following morning to travel to Banos. Rio Verde is located a few miles outside the town of Banos, about 3.5 hours south of Quito.
