Description:
In the rural community of Chin Chin this school is the only option children have to receive an adequate education. The school has struggled for many years given a lack of teachers, money for materials, as well as proper building supplies to renovate the increasingly dilapidated classrooms. Often children walk up to an hour in order to get to school only to find they share the same classroom and teacher with every other student grades 1-6. This volunteer project an unmatched opportunity to get to know the country and its people on a personal level, and contribute to programs that are making a real difference in the lives of the young children it serves. You will work side by side with Ecuadorian teachers, assisting with lesson plannng, teaching, tutoring and recreational activities. You will stay with a carefully screened and welcoming host family, giving you insight into daily life in Ecuador. Our staff in the US are experienced volunteers themselves who are happy to share their experiences and expertise with prospective volunteers. Our partner staff in Ecuador are friendly, caring and dedicated to ensuring that all volunteers have a rewarding experience. Chin Chin is located a few miles outside the town of Banos, about 3.5 hours south of Quito. All volunteers will be met at the airport in Quito, given an orientation and overnight stay, and then taken to the bus station the following morning to travel to Banos.
